you should also be able to choose someone to 1on1, or get randomly setup.
perhaps even a option to which class you would like to 1on1 against?

Make a primary professions 1 vs 1 random arena.
So that
Warriors versus Warriors
Rangers versus Rangers
Monks versus Monks
...
etc

Let players able to issue 1 vs 1 challenge, and the challenged player be able to accept or decline the issued challenged.

This idea, concept of 1 vs 1 has been brought up in this forum, many, many times. It is about time ANET did something.

Furthermore, if ANET is totally against 1 versus 1, they would have made an official statement.

For example, such as their stance on the maximum level of 20.

Unless ANET has made it official that there will be no 1 vs 1, people will always want it.

Default 1 vs 1, what a good idea...

You act like implementing dueling would ruin Guild Wars. If you don't like dueling, why can't you show your opposition to it by not taking part in it?
Players should be smart enough to realize that builds in 1v1 would not be the same as builds in PvP or GvG.
As for people saying that it would create too much "looking for duel" spamming, the same goes for any new item introduced to the game, etc. Maybe, to prevent spamming, 1 vs 1 should/would only be available in the guild hall.

Personally, there have been many times when I wished I could duel a guildie of mine, because it's fun.
I really don't see how adding 1 vs 1 could hurt the game, but I guess that's just me...

Edit: An even better idea would be allowing 1-4 vs 1-4 battles in guild halls. This would be even more fun than dueling, and would prove somewhat useful in developing builds for just PvP arenas, that way you could choose your opponents (incase you would like to practice against certain classes like warriors, etc.).

Building a 1v1 arena system would just be wasted resources that could better be used creating new and different skills and increasing the AI abilities of the mobs and adding a bazaar system that they promised us way back in August of last year and many other things that should take priority over some silly 1v1 arena.

If ANET made its customers happy by implementing 1 vs 1 into Guild Wars, that would not be wasted resources.

everyone complaining about balanced in 1v1, look at Random Arena.. is that balanced?
So if you're opposed to the 1v1 idea state a reason why you think Warr. vs Warr. or Ranger vs Ranger ect. would be unbalanced.
or even random 1v1 selection!
and that stuff about people building builds just for 1v1... so, it's their character slot to do what they want with it (did you even think about pvp only!), and besides everyone makes builds JUST FOR Random Arena or JUST FOR Team Arena.

Enough Elitism exists in game right now; we don't need guilds forcing people to "audition" just to get in and learn based on a build that has NO in-game usefullness PvE or PvP.

As already mentioned, it has no use in game, but the effects of 1v1 builds would create skill balances that would dirupt the entire GW metagame, front to back and back to front. People call for farming nerfs twice a week in here; imagine what will happen when they start getting their butt whooped 1v1:
"Dudz, plz nerfz Disease! All thems degens notz far! Fireball FTW!!!!!!!11one"

Last, imagine a bunch of 1v1ers in RA/TA. Just think about it for a second. All they know from PvP is that they kick butt with this build and don't need anyone's help to kick the crud out of someone else. "Team? I don't need no stinkin TEAMS! I held the Hall of Solitude for 7 matches; I pwnt u all!"

"WTH! YOU NOOBZ< REZ ME< HACKERS! I DON'T DIE! I 1v1!"

I'm sorry; we;ve got enough people like that in game already. 1v1 is like chum in a shark tank to them.

And any guild that forces you to "audition" isn't worth the trouble. Some guilds may do test runs of players in Team Arena, sure, and I could see some guilds using the 1v1 to see how the player could handle against an Axe Warrior, but...if a guild forced me to audition for them, like I was some monkey dancing for the camera? Screw that shit. If it happens, I seriously doubt 1v1 is/will be the reason it happens.

Regarding the twits. They're screaming for nerfs this very moment, and they're screaming for nerfs based on Random Arena experiences. Yet I don't see ANet bending over for their every little whim.

In fact, only rarely do I see ANet respond to such childish ranting about certain skills. They fix overpowered ones when players bring them to their attention, certainly, but little twitty n00bs are rarely the catalyst for skill changes/tweaks.

Excuse me if this has already been posted (I dont feel like looking through 17 pages)... but heres how i think it should happen:

In a town or an outpost, someone has the option to "duel" someone, just as they have the option to "trade" someone. When/If the person accepts, they are taken to a dueling arena, where you can say... pick certain situations like first to 10 kills, king of the hill, etc

OR

Theres an outpost for 1v1 dueling and you can either challenge people to duels or you can enter the mission and get partnered randomly. If this option is added, i'd appreciate both choosing and being randomly partnered to be options. Depends on what mood im in, right?

This should also be sticky'd.

This game is so well balanced, that if you get whooped 1v1, it means either A) you suck bad or B) you're fighting a person who is completely risistant to you. EX: Mesmer VS Spiker. See my post above about being able to choose your duelist (which by the way is the definition of a duel, sorta) 1v1 is a good idea and everyone with .0093882% of a brain knows that. 1v1 would be so fun... not only to test ideas but... it.. would just be fun. lol.

Now focusing on this area of complete stupidity....

Do you remember any of the good RPG's? Like say, Diablo 2? WoW? (even though thats not old)

But anyways, what you're saying is almost heartstoppingly hilarious to me. What shows your skill? "OMJESUS I JUST KILLT A RANGER..with 3 other people..IT WAS OWNAGE LOL!!1l11" Not that. To be able to beat people repeditively 1v1 shows your true skill. I believe team fighting is retarded, so what if you can poop and pee all over a monk with 4 people on him. I guess you rock hard man. As for people that say it has nothing to do with the rest of the game, as like Mr. Minus here, what if there was a dueling rank? like perhaps.. after 100 1v1 kills, you get the first rank, after 250 kills, you get the second rank, and its even displayed by your name. Now not only is it fun, you're doing it for something. Ponder on that while I eat nachos.

I think the farthest this idea would go is being able to hit each other in the isle of the nameless for training/practice purposes. If this does get implemented like that, i would love to see the Wammos spamming The Great Temple of Balthasaur looking for other Wammos to 1v1
